The short version

HocusFocus runs on your Mac. It has no account, no analytics and no tracking. What you search for, what you copy, your notes and your AI requests never leave your Mac.

The AI is on-device

The assistant uses the language model built into macOS through Apple's Foundation Models framework. Requests are processed on your Mac. HocusFocus doesn't send them to any server, including ours.

What stays on your Mac

Clipboard history, notes, launch counts (used to rank results) and settings are stored in ~/Library/Application Support/HocusFocus/ and the app's preferences. Items that password managers mark as concealed or transient are never recorded. You can clear clipboard history from Settings, or delete the folder.

Your trial start date and licence are kept in your login Keychain.

What goes online

• Currency rates: once a day, the app downloads the European Central Bank's reference rates from frankfurter.dev. No information about you is sent.
• Update check: about once a day, the app asks GitHub whether a newer release is out. The request names the app and its version; nothing about you or your licence is sent. You can turn this off in Settings → About.
• Web searches: only when you choose one; it opens in your browser.
• Licence: when you activate or deactivate a key, and about once a week afterwards, HocusFocus sends your licence key, the seller's organisation id and a label naming your Mac's model (for example "Mac16,1") to Polar's licence service.

Buying

Payments are handled by Polar, the merchant of record. They process your name, email address and payment details under their own privacy policy. We receive your email address and order details so we can send your licence and help with support.

This website

This site uses no cookies. It counts visits with Vercel Web Analytics, which records the page, referrer, country and device type without cookies or any identifier that follows you across sites or days. It also measures how fast pages load with Vercel Speed Insights, which records timings and the device type, again without cookies or identifiers. None of this applies to the app itself.
